Historical context

The first prati-madhyama raga known to history, obtained via Graha-bhēdam of the ancient ṣaḍja-grāma. Brought to Carnatic from North India in the 17th century; over 700 compositions and 122 janya ragas. Kṣētragna alone composed 20+ padams in Kalyāṇi.
